Welcome to our historic Northwestern California scenic wonderland. Enjoy the four seasons of Trinity County by navigating our excellent roads and highways.

We are very proud our gold rush heritage and culture. The most outstanding mementos of our heritage are relics of Trinity County's gold rush era. Gold was first discovered here in 1848. By 1850, the county was overrun with sourdoughs prospecting for riches. Many modern-day visitors pan for gold, enjoy fishing for trout, salmon, bass or catfish. Our water resources are legendary, enjoy boating on our lakes, or raft in our scenic rivers. The Shasta-Trinity National Forest and Six Rivers National Forest offer great recreational activities.

Trinity County's scenic byways are a great way to explore our county. No excursion to Trinity County would be complete with out visiting Trinity Lake, Ruth Lake, Lewiston Lake or our many Rivers and streams.

Even before the miners, however, the county was home to native American tribes. The cave at Hayfork's Natural Bridge shows early petroglyphs and is a legendary location.

Many of the artifacts of the gold rush era can be seen in our many museums, in Weaverville the J. J. Jackson Museum and Historic Park in Weaverville, the Scott Museum in Trinity Center or the Lewiston Schoolhouse Museum.

The Chinese laborers that worked the gold mines left wonderful treasure, the "temple in the clouds", a Taoist Temple. The Joss House State Park in Weaverville. This unique park and museum provides a rare glimpse into their lives during that tumultuous period. Trinity County also has a thriving art community.
