Trinity County TOT and 1/2% Sales TAX

The purpose of posting this information is to provide documented figures that show the amounts collected from the Transient Occupancy Tax that is directly related to tourism dollars spent and the 1/2% state sales tax rebate to Trinity County that is related to the overall general sales within Trinity County. Thanks to Trinity County Auditor, David Nelson and his staff. Within days of his taking office, the information displayed here was cheerfully and professionally provided.

The years covered, 1993 to 2007 include the simple start of Greg Greenwood's internet information project; "The Trinity Pages" on AOL..that evolved into the major costruction period of the "TrinityCam" project and then multiple websites requiring updating regularly. Several hours a day, everyday, 7 days a week ...

Eventually, there will be some graphs, notes and other data provided to catagorize some statistical relationships. An initial brief survey by Greg Greenwood, volunteer webmaster noted that the periods of time with growth in Tourism, Business and Community content coinsides with the size of the growth of the increases in revenue.

The numbers mean nothing in themselves, but they atleast serve to encourage the continued existance of the informational websites that will continue to encourate people to visit as tourists or join us as residence to follow their dreams in our scenic mountains.

Information was requested from the Office of the Trinity County Tax Collector. They are too understaffed to provide any information requested this year. I will request same information in 2008, and update this article with that information.

Finally, it is hoped that those interested in TOT funds will consider helping to increase the TOT tax rate, and see about reforming the process that the TC Supervisors use to alocate the funds to various groups. Greg Greenwood 3/22/07
